Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Fighters Group

Since the launch of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with rich lore, a diverse cast of heroes, and a exciting storyline showcasing celestial beings, demons, and dark forces increasing in power within the city.

Note: Spoilers for the third episode of Campaign 4 follow below.

The Soldiers Table Revealed

The latest chapter concluded with a dramatic pause and revealed the premier party of adventurers who will branch out from the central cast to begin their separate journey, distinct from the other two tables.

The Soldiers table consists of the determined fighter (played by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), Wicander (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).

Why Split the Party?

With an extensive roster, it was clear from the start that having everyone at one table would be unworkable.

That’s why, the initial installments of this story serve as an Overture, intertwining the personal journeys before branching into three distinct groups: Fighters, Schemers, and Explorers.

What Defines the Soldiers Table

Per the DM, the warrior group is for participants who prefer a typically action-packed battle-oriented story mode where peaceful solutions are scarce.

At first glance, characters like the hesitant healer the cleric might appear out of place, but the events of the third episode demonstrate why these five characters are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.

Reasons to Leave

For one thing, the team has a clear idea where to head next after a violent initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.

A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose demise initiated the campaign’s events—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, breaking into the secret base, striking Thimble, and stealing all the enchanted items to auction.

The antagonist then cleared his liabilities and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond the urban center, with Teor’s brother close behind.

Character Drivers

Moreover, each character has a individual motive to depart Dol-Makjar:

  • Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, wants revenge.
  • The adventurer has experience in the northern area and warns that it is a nasty environment.
  • The strong character and The cleric, having disobeyed his house’s orders to execute the fighter and instead freed him, have no other options.
  • But, their status as important members in the powerful family could help the group reach locations they normally couldn’t.
  • Furthermore, The fighter vowed a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his rescue and will now follow him anywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

Lastly, all of them are sought by the powers that govern the setting for a range of causes, making lingering locally no longer safe:

  • Thimble and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The strong figure and Wicander betrayed the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
  • The fighter is marked for death by House Halovar.

This leaves them few options but to journey toward the remote area in search of Casimir.

Upcoming Developments

According to the latest episode’s post-show segment, we find out that the Soldiers table will not appear next week, leaving the remaining eight cast members to round up the Seekers and Strategists groups.

Audiences can look forward to learning which characters will be assigned to which table in the story’s last Overture episode, streaming live on October 24.
